I went back to school part-time in 2018, and a year later I was ready to apply for a master’s program. I tried for as many schools as I could in order to have the best chances. I was determined to get it done in one shot, and I absolutely didn’t want my journey to be pushed back another year. I had been working like crazy taking night classes just to get this chance! It wasn’t until February that I received acceptance to my top school, Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons. Wow, was I shocked! As of this Fall, I will officially be in the MSOT Class of 2022!
During my student observations, I was exposed to an OTR trained in Neurodevelopmental Treatment (NDT). Treatments such as these especially appeal to me in their integration of sensorimotor input and neurological development. Some of the integrative services we discussed included Interactive Metronome Training and Tomatis’ auditory stimulation therapy. These non-invasive methods are incredibly exciting and deserve more attention, research, and administrative support to determine & secure accessibility through health insurance.
After working in behavioral health for over five years, I found myself at a career crossroads. In order to grow as a clinician and improve my ability to help others, it was time to pursue a master’s degree. But the field I most wanted to branch into was not exactly in line with my previous education; as it turned out, I had to take 9 prerequisite courses to qualify for MS programs in Occupational Therapy. I decided that in the long haul, committing myself to a few more years of study would be more than worth it. And the sooner the better!
The following are some post stylings left to me by the creator of the theme, Nina Petropoulos. This page can be used as a reference for markdown stylings and syntax. Feel free to use the updates I’ve made to the theme, since the original was an older version, circa 2016. You’ll likely have to install node, gulp, and jekyll globally if you don’t have them already. When you’re updating, remember to check that your formatting is compatible for both desktop & mobile. GLHF!
